Patient Selection for and Delivery of the Newest in Precision Radiation Oncology: Pencil Beam Scanning Proton Therapy

In this video, Dr. Charles Simone discusses patient selection for pencil beam scanning, the most advanced form of proton therapy, to treat malignant pleural mesothelioma. Mesothelioma cells are particularly susceptible to radiotherapy, and proton therapy with pencil beam scanning allows an experienced radiation oncologist to conform a higher dosage of radiation more precisely to the patient’s pleural lining while sparing more of the heart, lungs, and esophagus.
