Stephen Thompson, MD
Stephen J. Thompson, MD is an Associate Professor and Medical Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Although he only recently moved to Baltimore two years ago, he has strong ties to our city. His mother grew up here, and his parents met when his father was a student at the Dental School at the University of Maryland. Dr. Thompson attended Muhlenberg College, and then New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey where he remained for his Pediatric and Pediatric Neurology training. He then completed a Neuro-Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. After this, he moved to Memphis, TN, where he was the Pediatric Neurologist for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He returned to NJ after 6 years in Tennessee, and prior to joining our faculty Dr. Thompson spent 13 years as the Section Chief of Pediatric Neurology and Director of the Neuro-Oncology Program at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. When not working here, Dr. Thompsons spends time every summer in the Catoctin Mountains of north-central Maryland, as the Director of Medicine for Camps Airy and Louise. He resides in Baltimore with his son.
